Faints and Pastels inspiration

Here is a small selection of a few things which have inspired me as of lately, the pastel colours in particular are helping me get through this cold, grey weather, knowing that summer is on it's way (quite a way) but nevertheless in the distance. Oh and do make sure that you check out Aubin & Wills, Spring Almanac for 2012 as there are some really beautiful pieces.

Inspirations

This weekend was a long coming....weekend full of inspiration. It started with a trip into Manchester city centre to visit the fabulous 'Magma' where I purchased the expensive (but well worth it) Lula magazine to get some much needed motivation. I was also very close to buying Oyster magazine, another favourite of mine. Fred Aldous (Art and Craft shop) was also on the agenda, where myself and my graphic design superwoman dreamt in spray paints and all things that resembled sketchbooks.
After our very 'arty' wander around the Northernquarter, we went to see the very anticipated, Shame, in the cosy and atmospheric cornerhouse cinema. Quite possibly the most awkwardest film I have ever been to see....well what can I say, it was a Steve Mcqueen film about a sex addict. All I have to say is that I am very glad I went to see it with the right person. Carey Mulligan was exquisite as per usual and Michael Fassbender gave a mesmerising performance. Definitely not for the soft hearted, expect uncomfortably long, sex scenes with a sad and shocking storyline...plus emotional music which makes your whole body tighten up and freeze from the reaction. Oh and don't even attempt to take in a rustling packet of crisps or sweets as the only sound which deemed acceptable was the occasional jaw drop, sobbing or the creak of the cinema doors where an old couple would leave to the sheer distress of the film.....almost in disgust.

Barrel Back to Nature

Here we have the final, still life image which I designed for V magazine.  My inspiration came from the word; 'balsamic' and the mood which I wished to portray was a warm, natural shoot with a sense for nostalgia. The key concept behind the photo shoot was the scene for an Italian wife of a vineyard owner . Although I found the still life task quite a challenge, I very much enjoyed it and was very pleased with my final outcome.

The Seven Widows

The final editorial for the 'Seven Widows' photo shoot is finally here. We have the Vulnerable Widow, Broken Widow, Grieving Widow, Desperate Widow, Detached Widow, Exploiting Widow and the Unbreakable Widow. These final images were chosen on the basis that they best represented each emotion. The shoot was designed to fit in with the style of Tank magazine.

Widow Test Shoot

So...a lot of tweaks still to make but here are a few of the best images from our test shoot for our creative styling project. We will be definitely be using a second board, behind the model, as just the one wasn't enough, all the purpose of a test shoot right. I can give away the "secret" concept now. Hoping you guys got the general idea anyway, but our images will represent the story and moods of seven different widows. We used specific garments and styling which we feel would represent these different widows feelings;

The Widows

Hello lovely people. Inspiration and motivation is finally back in my life again, after a pretty lazy summer. Picture lots of..... black, lace, layers of fabric and elongated lines, and you pretty much have the concept for my styling project at university. So far, being totally honest, it has been a pretty amazing project, nevertheless a lot of research but the practical side is damn exciting. The test shoot was literally done the other day, hopefully you can imagine the narrative which goes with it (Not going to give the secret away just yet)! There are quite a few tweaks to be made, before the final shoot, but I'm more than happy with this as a starting point. A dark, solemn and quite depressing shoot which, surprisingly, was fun and interesting;
theatrical; exaggerated and affected in manner or behaviour; histrionic

Autumn happiness

Hello Autumn. I've got over the fact that summer has been and gone now and I'm now relatively happy to welcome in the new season and it's chilly walks, lazy sunday mornings with hot chocolates and rich tea biscuits, casual outings to historical places, cable knit scarfs, frilly mittens and evenings in front of the television snuggled up with a fleecy throw. Yes I think I have to say Autumn is my favourite time of year (Apart from christmas of course).

disconnected; not rationally connected; confused or incoherent

Dining time

1) I have never realised how nice crabbie's is with a dash of rum.
2) how funny someone's face can look after a whiff of ketjap?!?!
3) how crazily busy Alton towers can get, the weekend before the school kids are sent back to reality.
4) how amazing and just how fun a sprinkle-covered ice-cream cone can actually be.....

Even now, 24 hours later, I can still taste it..Normal ice cream cones..in comparison..taste like sand paper

Where can I buy such a delight?

(The jacket....a new purchase, is a vintage item from liverpool which seems to now be glued onto me)

Beautiful magazine covers

Have you ever seen more of a beautiful magazine cover? I cannot get over the perfectness of the Autumn/Winter 2011/2012 issue of Love. Perfect mix of styling and graphics. Femininity to the max with a dose of lace, diamonds, bows, pearls and pale skin, photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

Below, Elle Fanning is the shining newcomer who is quickly following in the footsteps of her sister, Dakota Fanning. At just thirteen, she looks ethereal and fairy-like;
Below, Chloe Moretz is best known for her role in the superhero film 'Kick Ass.' Her fiery locks say it all this super natural image;
Below, Hailee Steinfeld is best known for her role in the film, 'True Grit.' All these front covers really do epitomise what Love magazine represents and it's true quality of style;
Incentive; something that incites or tends to incite to action or greater effort, as a reward offered for increased productivity.
